The way this world has been built is upon the great ideas and innovations of our past and present creative minds. Innovation is a broad term that encompasses several things, such as a random idea, a device, or even a process. Every day one might come up with a brilliant idea that could possibly alter the way we as humans process and function on a daily basis.
The device or contraption that I have decided to write and research about is the stove. The stove is something known to a majority of us as the machine we have in our kitchens, but in a more detailed sense, there is much more to the helpful mechanism than meets the eye.
Modern day stoves were not always a kitchen essential that we used to cook our meals on, but was actually a major and reliable source of energy and heat in households; this dates back to as far as the Chinese Qin Dynasty back in 221 BC. Now these machines were not always the fancy eight burning stoves we see today, however instead they were originally clay burning stoves that were fuelled by either wood or charcoal. Whether it was a clay stove or an open fire, cooking over these contraption dealt major disadvantages to society; it was just plain dangerous, so innovation and creative minds were a necessity to fix this somewhat good idea into something phenomenal.
That's where Sir Benjamin Thompson came into the story, whereas he invented the modern day kitchen stove that we see varieties of in today's kitchen. This invention was released approximately in the 1790's, and was a result of his development towards improving the chimney system. With word of mouth and other scientists buzzing about this absurd improvement in what was known as a mediocre invention, the modern day kitchen stove evolved. By the 1850's the modern day kitchen was almost always equipped with a modern day stove in most middle - class homes. Stoves of this era commonly burned charcoal as well as wood, and would allocate most of the heat towards one side. This allowed cooks to cook things at different temperatures depending on what side of the pot was touching that side of the heat. Coal was further replaced with gas as time and innovations grew larger.
The modern day kitchen stove can be described as an innovation because it was, overtime dealt with and improved based upon an original idea. Not only can this machine be thought of as a product that we can purchase and use to our own discretion in today's society, but rather it provides us with a service (Heat back in the day, and as a heating mechanism today). The technology behind many of the kitchen stoves we see today exhibits the works of scientists who have improved upon this idea over the years as well. Because we have stoves in today's society as well, it established an entire restaurant and food industry. Without this product and work of technology, we wouldn't have been able to create an entire industry. It provides us with the luxury of eating out in today's society, as well as providing us with nourishment and the ability to survive at home.
This innovation has affected me in several ways, because it has allowed for me to embrace a passion for cooking and baking, and has also allowed for me to nourish myself and others through food. Because of this innovation, I am also able to dine out at plenty of interesting restaurants in the industry, allowing myself to expand my horizons when it comes to cultural variety. I wouldn't be able to taste the foods of other cultures if it weren't for the invention of stoves several hundreds of years ago. This invention has brought out the in several ways, and has benefitted most of us in crazy ways. Many of us don't think about what would happen if we did not have a stove because we've always had the privilege of owning one, but it is crazy to think about how different our lives would be if the invention was never thought of.
